It's been a while thanks to ill health but the HMS Victory product from Renderosity [link] begged to be rendered immediately!!
I used the Vue version of the model with a minor adjustment to the sail material to give them a little Sub Surface Scattering so the shadows of the objects behind them were projected forward in a similar fashion to how it would be in real life. (With all those overlapping sails and increased quality of the sails, the rendering did take a lot longer)
The model itself is beautifully detailed with a very high res mesh - it's a shame this view doesn't really show off the details but I was in the mood for canons!
Photoshop is where I added the canon discharge, the smoke, the birds and the water splashes all thanks to Rons Brushes from the Daz3d store (Specifically Rons Smoke, Rons Splashes (probably both sets 1 & 2) and Rons Birds).
Finished off by enhancing the lens flare (Knoll Lens Flare Pro plug-in) and slight blurring to focus the eye on the ship's hull and canon fire (On-One Focal Point plug-in which is something that Photoshop CS6 is going to have built in).
Software - Poser and Vue
Thanks for looking.
